Omega-3 protects the brains of elderly




The conclusion comes from a study conducted by the US department of internal medicine at the University of South Dakota. "Our findings support the idea that high levels of omega-3 obtained from fish or supplements are good for brain health," says James Pottala, author of the study and professor at the University of mention. The study analyzed the levels of omega-3 fatty acids to more than a thousand elderly women. After eight years, when their average age was 78 years, they have brain scans with magnetic resonance. Participants with higher levels double the volume omega 3 were 0.7 percent higher brain. They had the largest volume of the hippocampus, a brain area in which the disease memory, Alzheimer's, first of attacks.
